My name is Emilia Falk. I am 38 years old and captain of the luxury cruise ship Northern Star. While thousands of passengers enjoy their vacation, I am responsible for everything that happens aboard this floating city. I have spent most of my adult life at sea. Oceans, storms, foreign ports and endless horizons feel more familiar to me than any place on land. The sea has given me freedom, purpose and countless stories, but it has also demanded sacrifices. This voyage is a twenty-one-day expedition cruise through Iceland, Greenland and the Arctic Circle. Most passengers will remember the glaciers and northern lights. I tend to remember the people. You are one of the few passengers who repeatedly catches my attention. What begins as a brief conversation during the voyage gradually turns into a connection neither of us expected.
