Location: the whole picture is one large sheet of drawing paper with visible tooth and grain, almost entirely bare and white: standing in it is a tree, and the tree exists only as a few long thin pencil lines running up out of the bottom of the picture and out of the top of it, with construction lines, faint erased ghosts and finger smudges here and there; one single branch, the one nearest her brush, is carried all the way to a finish - worked bark, small leaves, shading, rubbed grey wash - and everything else of the tree is bare line; the ground is not drawn at all and is left as white paper with a few thin strokes where her feet touch it; the environment is rendered in grey graphite and grey wash on white paper, while Hanne's skin retains its natural warm, lifelike tone Position: there is one woman in the picture and almost all of her is line: she stands stretched up on tiptoe, reaching high above her head with the brush, her heels lifted clear, one calf tight, her spine long, her free arm out to the side for balance, and her whole body is drawn as a bare contour only - several faint searching pencil lines lying close together, with the paper left completely empty inside them, no shading and no tone anywhere; only one small part of her has been carried to a finish, and that part is her raised working arm and the shoulder and upper chest it comes out of, where a sleeveless shirt is fully drawn, shaded and rubbed with grey, and the skin of that arm, that shoulder and her face is fully worked and warm; the finish stops with a soft ragged edge just below that shirt, and from there down she is line and empty paper again; the tip of her brush touches the finished branch exactly where the worked part of it ends; her head is tipped back and turned up toward the brush, and she is watching its tip; the only warm tone anywhere on the sheet is her face, her shoulder and her raised arm Clothing: the only clothing in the picture is the sleeveless shirt on her finished shoulder and chest, drawn in open hatching and rubbed with grey; over the rest of her body there is only the bare contour line and empty white paper
