An underwater photograph taken deep, with only black water above her and no surface anywhere in the picture. The camera stands well back from her and off to her other side, so she is seen almost in profile, small enough that her whole body is in the frame and still sharp. She is climbing up a gentle slope of dark rock on all fours, and her limbs are staggered: her leading hand is planted well ahead of her and higher up the slope, her other hand is further back and lower, one knee is drawn up under her and her other leg is stretched straight out behind her with the toes just off the rock. Both her hands are flat and taking her weight, and only her two hands are in the picture. Her head is low and pushed forward, her face turned to the rock ahead of her and her eyes on the ground in front of her leading hand. Her hair lifts up and away from her scalp toward the black above in slow heavy strands. A wide piece of thin grey cloth, about as broad as her shoulders, is knotted at her hips and stands clear of her skin, drifting up. Her skin holds only grey-green, the red already gone out of it. One narrow shaft of daylight comes down from far above and lands along her back and nothing else; everything past her is solid black with no detail in it. Two tones: the black water and the lit line of her back. Sharp on her leading hand on the rock. Fine 35mm film grain. In the lower right corner, a small pencil signature: Ziggy
