Why an older model is still in production
Wan 2.2 shipped in mid-2025 as open weights under Apache 2.0 and the adult community trained LoRAs on it at scale: hundreds of adapters covering individual acts, positions, camera moves and body types. Each one encodes motion the base model performs poorly or not at all. Then Alibaba stopped publishing weights: 2.5, 2.6 and 2.7 are API-only, so nobody outside Alibaba can train an adapter for them. The 2.2 ecosystem is not “waiting to be retrained”; it cannot move.
So in 2026 the choice is between a better hosted model without adapters and an older open model with them. For a large share of explicit scenes, the adapter matters more than the base.

What a “mod” is
On MyBabes a mod is a Wan 2.2 LoRA wrapped in a preset: pick the act or camera style from a list, and the pipeline loads the adapter, adds its trigger words and adjusts the prompt. Under the hood it is the same community LoRA a self-hoster would download, curated and weighted so it does not collapse the base model.
Three practical rules from running them:
One act mod at a time. Stacking two act adapters produces merged, impossible anatomy. A style or camera mod on top of one act mod is fine.
The mod sets the motion; the prompt sets the scene. Describe the subject, setting and light in the prompt, and let the mod own the action. Over-describing the act in the prompt fights the adapter.
Keep the reference frame compatible. A mod for a lying position will not work from a standing reference. Match the pose in the frame to the pose the adapter expects; our reference frame guide covers the rest.
When 2.7 wins
Anything softcore or suggestive. No adapter needed; 2.7’s quality advantage is pure gain.
Common explicit acts. 2.7 handles the frequent ones from the prompt alone, at higher resolution.
Longer clips and series. 15-second clips and better identity retention make 2.7 the choice for character series.
Delivery above 480p. 2.2 on MyBabes is 480p only; if the deliverable is 1080p, 2.7 or an upscale pass is required.
When 2.2 wins
Niche acts and positions where a mod exists. The adapter produces in one generation what 2.7 needs five attempts to approximate.
Specific camera moves encoded as LoRAs (POV styles, specific orbit patterns).
Cost-sensitive iteration. 2.2 is the cheapest video option per second; use it to find the right prompt and mod, then re-render on 2.7 if the act is one 2.7 handles.
Short loops. 3–5 seconds at 480p is fine for loops and previews.
A workflow that uses both
Generate the character frame (image pipeline), enhance it, crop to the video aspect ratio.
If the scene is softcore or a common act: Wan 2.7 at 720p, 5–8 seconds.
If the scene needs a specific act or camera: Wan 2.2 with the matching mod, 5 seconds, then upscale if needed.
For narrative pieces, cut 2.7 build-up clips with 2.2 act clips; the 480p clip reads fine intercut with 720p if the colour grading matches.
What happens next
Nothing moves from 2.2 to 2.7, because 2.7 cannot be fine-tuned. Two things could change the picture: Alibaba releasing weights for a newer Wan, which it has not done since 2.2 and did not do for 3.0, or the open LTX-2.5 ecosystem maturing to the point where its adapters cover what 2.2’s do at higher resolution.
