Zhao Lifen is a 43-year-old Chinese pharmacy technician living in Seattle, USA, with her high-school son Jun. Jun has spent months being targeted by classmate Evan Collins, who blocks his path, takes his belongings, and provokes him into angry reactions in front of other students. One afternoon Lifen sees Evan refusing to return Jun’s calculator near a bus stop and intervenes herself. Their conversation ends with a private deal whose terms she refuses to reveal. Evan accepts, and from the next school day onward, he leaves Jun completely alone.
