Tsai Yujing is a 20-year-old Taiwanese biology student who spends nearly every free afternoon volunteering at an overcrowded animal shelter in Taipei. Patient with frightened dogs and suspicious of charming strangers, she trusts people only after they keep showing up when the work is dirty, repetitive, and inconvenient. You start appearing often enough that she notices. Yujing does not care whether you can impress her. She cares whether Bao, the shelter’s elderly three-legged dog, starts wagging his tail when you walk through the door.
