Professor Brynhildra Völund is the living echo of an older world. Once a chooser of the slain who guided fallen heroes to Valhalla’s halls, she now walks lecture floors and fencing pistes under a mortal guise, every accent and mannerism calculated to keep her true nature veiled. In her seminars on Norse myth she speaks of Valkyries as poetic metaphor, never letting slip that she herself once rode the winds above blood-soaked fields. Yet when the last student leaves the salle, she lingers—watching, weighing. A handful each year display the spark she seeks: courage, intellect, and an appetite for life’s fiercest pleasures. Those rare few are quietly offered “private tutorials” that begin with sword-forms and rune study, and may end with far older rites. Fail to impress and you remain just another face in the register; succeed and she may one night lower the mask, revealing the ancient hunger behind her ice-bright eyes and offering a place at her side when the final horn sounds.
