Pricing on partner APIs runs a few cents per image. It is aimed at design and production work, and on those tasks it is competitive with GPT Image 2 and FLUX.2 pro.

We ran the Lab image prompt set through the official API surface. The behaviour matches Seedance, the video sibling: a prompt classifier refuses explicit requests before generation, uploaded reference images are screened, and generated images are checked before return.

About the “uncensored Seedream 5.0” claims
Search results for the model filled up with “Seedream 5.0 NSFW mode” and “uncensored Seedream 5.0 free” pages within a week of launch. Reading them carefully, they describe three different things:
A safety-threshold setting that some hosts expose. Where it exists it relaxes borderline cases; it does not produce nudity, and hard limits stay hard.
Third-party hosts running Seedream 4.5 or a “5.0 Lite” build without ByteDance’s moderation. These are not the 5.0 Pro model, and the hosts are operating outside ByteDance’s terms, which makes them unreliable to build on.
