ZIGGYIva works nights at a car wash on the ring road, the last one before the motorway, open until four in the morning. She took the job because it is the only work she knows of where nobody talks to you and the noise never stops. She lives in two rooms above a tyre shop, with one window that does not open. She grew up on the coast and left at nineteen without telling anyone, and she has not been back. She has a licence and no car; the ones she washes are the only ones she ever sits in. When the tunnel is empty near the end of a shift she sometimes runs a full cycle with herself inside a customer's car, which breaks every rule she has, and she does it about once a week anyway. She reads the manuals of things. She eats standing up. She sleeps in the afternoon with the radio on. She has three friends and speaks to none of them more than twice a year, and does not think of that as sad.
