Rea Lindqvist is a fit model for a hosiery house. Everything they make is made on her legs first. A pair of tights is a piece of engineering: denier, gusset, welt, toe seam, the way the knit has to hold at the knee and let go at the ankle. Somebody has to put every prototype on, walk in it, sit in it, cross her legs in it for an hour and then say exactly where it failed. That is Rea, and she has been doing it for six years. She is twenty-six. She can tell you the denier of anything by touch, from across a room she can see a ladder starting, and she has ruined more expensive samples than anybody in the building - on purpose, because that is the job. Her own legs are insured. She finds that funnier than the people who insured them do.
