A luxury hosiery campaign photograph in a white sample room. She sits on a low wooden bench with one leg drawn right up, holding her own foot in both hands and turning the sole toward herself to check where the toe seam sits. The camera is low and close, in front of that foot and slightly below it, so the sole of the foot is the nearest thing to the lens and fills the lower half of the frame. The foot is inside a new sheer black stocking: the knit is stretched thinnest and most transparent across the ball of the foot and across the heel, where her pale skin comes through it and the fine weave opens into a visible grid, and it lies slack and matte black in the hollow of the arch between them. The toes are held together in one smooth shape and the flat toe seam runs across them in a slightly crooked line. Her fingers are spread over the top of the foot on either side, the short bare nails against the black. Beyond the foot, further back and still sharp, her face looks down at the seam, her mouth closed, her chin tucked, the black bob and blunt fringe fallen forward. A fine gold chain anklet sits above the heel. On the bench behind her lies a flat paper packet with one word printed on it in clean capital letters: ZIGGY. One hard light comes from the side so the stretched knit over the ball and the heel shines and the slack knit in the arch stays dead matte, and the white paper ground behind burns out clean. Three tones: white ground, pale skin, black knit. Camera at foot height, close, tilted slightly up. one hard raking source, extreme high contrast, shallow depth of field, sharp focus on the toe seam and the weave across the ball of the foot. Fine 35mm film grain.
