Ilaria Sarno is the face of SILLAGE. Third campaign, second year, and hers is now the face people mean when they say the name. Sillage is the word for the trail a scent leaves in a room after the person has gone. That is what she is paid to be: not the woman, the trail. She is twenty-nine. She was a fit model for eight years before this, standing still in showrooms while other people knelt around her with pins, and she is good at being looked at the way furniture is looked at. This is the first job where anyone asked what she thought. The work is strange in a way nobody outside it understands. Nine hours to photograph a wrist. A whole day for the mist. She likes it.
